British Firework Championships 2018

The Competition

Plymouth hosts the British Firework Championships in August and have been running since 1997. Six firework companies from across the UK are drawn to take part in the event over two nights. The dates this year are 8th & 9th August.

In 2018 year the companies taking part were as follows:

• Phoenix Fireworks
• Fully Fused Fireworks
• Fuse Fireworks
• Smart Pyrotechnics
• Illusion Fireworks
• The UK Firework Company

Reserve companies are The Fireworkers and Nemesis Fireworks.

The firing order was:

Wednesday:

1. Fuse Fireworks
2. Fully Fused Fireworks
3. UK Firework Company

Thursday:

1. Smart Pyrotechnics
2. Illusion Fireworks
3. Phoenix Fireworks

Where to watch

The displays are fired from the Mountbatten breakwater with the prime viewing areas from the Citadel and The Hoe. There is entertainment provided on The Hoe for both nights of the competition.

The Queen Anne’s Battery area overlooks the site and is a popular viewing point, alternatively there is limited viewing at the Mountbatten pub.

Fewer numbers will watch the display from boats on the Plymouth sound, which are positioned around the breakwater outside the exclusion zone.

It is very busy on display nights, so getting to the viewing locations early is recommended!
